Great book for Network architecting and implementation

After I studied different network components separately, I needed a book to show me the big picture of how a network could be designed. This book exceeded my expectations because the book covered more material and in detail on the different network components and services individually as well as putting them in different network contexts based on the business and technical needs of an organization. The other great thing I liked about this book is that it covers network topics in a short way including definitions, different scenarios, recommendations, and best practices. That means learning a lot in short periiod. I believe the book gives somebody who have little field experience a good confidence to take his/her network skills learned from this book to a real world assignment as opposed to text books that are more academically oriented.

Great book.

From a visual perspective. The representation of data, diagrams, and concepts are fantastic and easy to follow. Unlike Cisco documentation which can get rather over-complicated and dry. The content was straight and to the point. Whoever edited this book did a great job.

The concepts are organized in alphabetical order which makes using this as a reference really easy. If I wanted to throw this over at a Jr IT Admin - I'd have no issue whatsoever telling them to go review a page and understand a concept.

Recommend this book for:
Any novice network admin. Should be reviewed for best practices prior to large or midsize network deployments.

Excellent Book! I highly recommend this book and the Meta States Model to help anyone who would like more choice in their lives

I have read Hall's two volume NLP Manual User's Manual for the brain and Secrets of Personal Mastery and I have experienced a lot of amazing shifts using Meta States and have used it to help others as well. At first it can seem like a big complex concept but at it's heart it is really simple. There was someone I was working with and they were tied in knots with all of the reactions and definitions they had in place and it seemed like there was no way out to them. I just asked a meta states question of "Could you allow yourself to feel compassion about this situation and everything you have been going through?" and they started relaxing and allowing more space and possibility in the situation through going meta. Just this shift made it possible to do more work where before there was just a looping and resistance.

This book is excellent in that it focuses on the concepts of Meta States and examines certain key meta state patterns including resilience.

Worst Haskell book I've ever seen

TL;DR: This is a terrible Haskell book, and a terrible book full stop. Don't waste your money.

This book contains numerous grammar and spelling errors, to the point where I am convinced that it has not been edited at all. Some of the examples don't even parse. Others are nonsensical and could not possibly do what the author claims that they do. I am convinced that this book has not had any technical review whatsoever. The author makes basic mistakes like claiming that (a function equivalent to) `foldl` operates in constant space, which is a property of `foldl'` and requires strictness annotations. There isn't a single section of this book without inexcusable grammar, spelling, and technical errors.

Concise and insightful

I love this book; it is concise, interesting, insightful, and well written. Lots of food for thought in this book, regardless whether you use Haskell or not.

It also provides a behind-the-scenes look at the evolution of Haskell as a language that is very worthwhile, fair, balanced, and objective.

Judicious use of quotes is tastefully interjected, which helps to frame the discussion.

The book eloquently ends with a quote (from "History of Haskell") which I will summarize in my own words as a conjecture about a day when Haskell will become a distant memory, but when that day comes it will live on in the genes of other technologies which it influenced.

Many Errors Should Have Been Cause with Light Proofreading, but Good for Non-beginners

FIRST: This book has A LOT of syntax errors and errors that should have caught with very light editing. Embarrassingly simple and numerous errors.

That said, if you already know Haskell, you will spot the errors right away and will not be confused. Beyond that, if you are in the process of moving to the intermediate level of Haskell, this book will give some of the information you need to move from beginner to intermediate.

About the Author

Vladimir M. Zatsiorsky, PhD, is a world-renowned expert in the biomechanics of human motion. He has been a professor in the department of kinesiology at Pennsylvania State University since 1991 and is director of the university's biomechanics laboratory.

Before coming to North America in 1990, Dr. Zatsiorsky served for 18 years as professor and chair of the department of biomechanics at the Central Institute of Physical Culture in Moscow. He has received several awards for his achievements, including the Geoffrey Dyson Award from the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports (the society's highest honor) and the USSR's National Gold Medal for the Best Scientific Research in Sport in 1976 and 1982.

Dr. Zatsiorsky has authored or coauthored more than 250 scientific papers. He has also authored or coauthored 11 books on various aspects of biomechanics that have been published in English, Russian, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Polish, Romanian, Czech, Serbo-Croatian, and Bulgarian. His latest books are Science and Practice of Strength Training, Kinematics of Human Motion, and Biomechanics in Sport (editor).

He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and a lifetime member of the American Geophysical Union.

WILLIAM J. LIKOS, PhD, is Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Missouri—Columbia, where he teaches courses in soil mechanics and soil behavior. He is a former geotechnical engineer with the U.S. Geological Survey. He is the author of numerous papers regarding unsaturated and expansive soil behavior, an editorial board member for the Geotechnical Testing Journal, and a member of ASCE and the Clay Minerals Society.

Out of the three major disciplines that study unsaturated soils 1) Soil Physicists, 2) Hydrogeologists, and 3) Civil Engineers; this book has a good balance of the necessary components of Soil Physics (i.e. surface tension, pressure potentials, suction measurements, capillarity) with the topics of interest for the Civil Engineer (i.e. shear strength,suction and earth pressure profiles). I greatly appreciate the chapter summarizing the popular suction and hydraulic models. This book is appropriate for the study of unsaturated soils in a Civil Engineering curriculum. Unsaturated Soils books from an Engineering perspective are not in abundance, and this is a welcome addition with a recent copyright.

Wonderful book on the topic of unsaturated soil mechanics. I would suggest including a chapter on bearing capacity similar to Fredlund's book.

I used this book as my graduate level course "Unsaturated Soil Mechanics" in each Fall semester. It is a well written textbook, with the easy concept and model for the unsaturated soil mechanics. It is highly recommended for college student and practical geotechnical engineers.

Excellent millennial generation resource

Beyond Talent is an excellent manual for any person trying to take a Millennial generation student from status quo to excelling.

Maxwell lays out all the specific thought processes and actions that go into learning how to be self motivated and successful in business and life. The subtitle on this book is "Become Someone Who Gets Extraordinary Results." I believe that any person who applies the principals laid out in this book will achieve excellent results.

What I appreciated most about Maxwell's book was that he took life examples of people who were successful and those who were expected to be successful but were not and gave clear reason as to why that occurred. My favorite quote from the book "Life is a matter of choices, and every choice you make makes you." "Talent is God-given. Life is playing the hand you have been dealt well. That is determined by your choices. Talent plus RIGHT Choices=A Talent Plus Person. A TPP is the one who maximizes their talent, reaches their potential, and fulfills their destiny." Not only does Maxwell give clear focus to what it takes to succeed he takes each aspect of it into account and gives baby steps on accomplishing each area. You could not ask for more in a book.

In Beyond Talent: Become Someone Who Gets Extraordinary Results, John C. Maxwell's usual wise insight appears to take a back seat to the inclusion of redundant, albeit encouraging, supporting material. Maxwell states that we really can reach our full potential, even if we think we can't. Stating that "Talent is never enough," Maxwell advises the reader to "...build upon the foundation of your abilities, and live your life to its fullest potential." However, readers of previous Maxwell books and/or other self-help volumes may find this book more of the same. The idea of reaching your full potential has been overworked in many self-help volumes. Moreover, Maxwell's use of abundant lists and quotes makes the book a collection of aphorisms. I would have preferred more original comments from this wise and intrepid author.
Referring to such successful people as Joe Namath, Winston Churchill, Charles Schulz and many more, Maxwell shares stories of success. Maxwell's advice includes focusing, persevering, and showing initiative; frequent lists and poems reiterate Maxwell's points. The format makes the book easy to read; text and the supporting material (lists and stories) are well placed on the page--easy to locate; easy on the eyes. Application Exercises which encourage the reader to apply the techniques follow each chapter.
As it is classic Maxwell, and he remains the ultimate motivator, the book may be useful for business seminars and individual professional development. However, there is not a lot of new information here.

Blown Away

Talent will open the door to success, but it alone cannot make you successful. It is the choices you make and the character traits you choose to invest in that will determine the outcome of your endeavors. Exploring the functions and necessity of belief, initiative, focus, preparation, practice, perseverance and character, Maxwell walks readers through everything they need to know go move from a place of mere talent to the success they seek. Well organized chapters include engaging anecdotes, key points highlighted in side-page brackets and end with insightful, action-oriented application exercises.

Although not familiar with Mr. Maxwell when I picked up this book, I now count myself among his newest fans! I loved the logical, organized format and the simplicity of the author's points; this material is not rocket science, but applying it creates a big impact. Especially impressive were the application exercises ending each chapter. Specific, applicable and designed to allow measurable success (or need for improvement), these exercises are far above and beyond standard reflection questions.

I found the author's integrity clearly noticeable throughout the work; he neither recycles material from his previous books, nor hypes them as is common among business writers. He openly admits pieces of wisdom not his own, giving credit and thanks to those who shared them with him. He maintains a positive, common sense tone, placing the dream of ultimate personal success within reach for everyone willing to work for it. I will definitely be reading more of Mr. Maxwell's work!

I've studied herbs for years, and have collected many books on the subject, but of them all, Mowreys' book The Scientific Validation of Herbal Medicine holds a pre-eminent place. Well written,intelligently and solidly researched, this book stands head over shoulders above the plethora of herbal books that derive their information mostly from folklore and anecdotal reports. Mowrey's book seperates the "wheat from the chaff". Highly recommended.

BEST Herbal Medicine book!!!!

This book is FANTASTIC!!! Go look in the pages and check out how they have their index. Most books' indexes you go to look up a word like *asthma* and you get page numbers that you go to and hope it's what you were looking for. In this book you look up asthma in the index and it shows you which herbs and the page numbers! That was worth the price of the book to me! Same with herb listings... you look up the herb and it tells you which ailment it will help and the page number to find it on.
Within the book you will find DETAILED explanations on which herbs to use, how much and how to apply them (i.e. gargling, teas, capsules, etc.)
This book will be my main herbal medicine book for years to come! Out of all my herbal books this one *by far* is the BEST book on herbal medicine that I have in my library! I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone seeking natural alternatives to health!!

I was pleasantly surprised by the information presented in the book. I purchased it for a quick reference. I quickly found myself reading page after page learning quite a bit about herbal remedies. I would recommend it to any one who is interested in healthy alternatives in addition to medications.
