Where is objectivity? book with a bias
By Rebecca
I picked up a copy of this book from our local library. I was searching for a good book to read with my kids to help them have a better understanding of our Constitution and Bill of Rights. This is NOT the book. I was so disturbed by the presentation in some chapters that I was unable to finish the book. Some chapters I read were fair, but the author in multiple chapters (2nd amendment and 8th amendment most obviously) were blatantly biased. She starts out the chapter on the 2nd amendment "Strictly speaking, the second amendment has little to do with kids." How about seach and seizure, or the death penalty? Do those have something to do with kids "strictly speaking"? The author uses statistics to support gun control which are extremely skewed. It wouldn't be such a bad thing to present the argument for gun control if she had balanced it by presenting the argument for gun ownership, but she doesn't. I found the same issue with her chapter on the eighth amendment in relation to capital punishment. She presents the case arguing against capital punishment without presenting the flip side of the coin. I would hope parents would look to sources for educating their children which would either present an unbiased review of our Bill of Rights, or present both sides of the argument on contentious amendments. This book does not serve our children's best interests. I recommend the books by Syl Sobel.
Unfortunately this book gives me reason to wonder about the accuracy of other books by Kathleen Krull, which my family have previously enjoyed. Shame on the author.

Biased,,,More slant and agenda,,,,,,,
By chuck
The book, as are so many today, pushing an agenda. The 2nd and 8th amendments are the most obvious. Beware you must look farther to find more objectivity. Such as The Bill of Rights: Protecting Our Freedom Then and Now by Syl Sobel J.D. (May 16, 2008) Which I just purchased here from Amazon.
