A Must Read for Women

Once upon a time, I joined Twitter, not looking for anything in particular. What I found was so much more. Somehow (and my memory fails me as to how exactly) I found Deborah Dunn (@deborahdunn). She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist here in NC. As I began to follow her updates, I quickly learned that she had just published a new book, titled "Stupid About Men: 10 Rules for Getting Romance Right," that was set to be released on February 3. Right away, I was interested, because let's face it, my track record with guys has been less than stellar. I then followed the Twitter account that she had set up for the book launch (@stupidaboutmen) and waited for the day that the book was available for order on Amazon. On the day that it was released, I ordered it, and anxiously awaited its arrival.

Once it arrived, I wanted to start reading it right away, and hoped to get through it very quickly. Once I started reading, however, I realized that this wasn't just one of those books that you fly through. Even though the book is written in a somewhat light hearted style, the subject matter lends it self to actually thinking about what you have read, and letting it sink in. If you truly want to let this book help you, I recommend going through it slowly and reflecting on which characteristics of women who are Stupid About Men you possess.

Each chapter is based upon a classic fairy tale character, and focuses on a "rule" that we can learn from the the character. At the beginning of each chapter is an excerpt from the classic fairy tale. To me, this was a brilliant concept. If provides a concrete example (fairy tale characters that we all know) to explain what we, as women, have been doing "wrong" for so long. Every girl dreams of having a fairy tale romance, but Dunn shows us just how misconstrued our ideas of romance and relationships have been all these years.

Not only does the book show you the problems that women have with relationships, but it gives you tips and ideas on how to correct those issues. This book is really about equipping women with the tools they need to not only better themselves, but to be successful in relationships with men. Just because the title has the word "Stupid" in it, does not mean that Dunn is implying that women are stupid. She is simply saying that when it comes to men, a lot of us have made some really stupid decisions, and we just need to understand why we keep making them. I have really taken the things that I read in this book to heart. A lot of the changes that I have recently decided to make in my life were prompted by reading this book.

One of the things that I really appreciated about this book is that although the author is a Christian, and the book is published by Howard Books, the Christian division of Simon and Schuster, the book is not pushy on religion. There are several mentions of God, and the relationship that one forms with him, but the books does not take a "force God down your throat" approach.

I am really glad that I found Deborah Dunn online, and even more glad that I decided to read her book. A lot of women would benefit from reading it, whether you are single or in a relationship. Somewhere inside of most of us is a girl that is Stupid About Men. Whether we are a Cinderella, a Snow White, or a Repunzel, or even a combination of several of the characters, this book will be of great help in your journey to "getting" men. I know for me, personally, reading it was the first step to finding my "happily ever after"

Best dating book ever!

This is honestly one of the best dating advice books I have ever read, if not the best one. And I have read a lot of them! The book uses very good examples and analogies. And while the author is Christian, it does not come across as preachy at all! It is easy and fun to read, while at the same time very insightful. I highly recommend it to any woman of any age. It actually gives you the tools to avoid/escape bad relationships, while at the same time be able to have a good one. And while it talks about things you can do to better yourself, such as furthering your education and picking up a hobby, it does not tell you to change your inner essence or personality. I highly recommend this book- even for people who are already in satisfying relationships.

About the Author
Keith Cuthbertson is Professor of Finance at CASS Business School, City University, London. He has been an advisor to the Bank of England and UK Treasury and a visitor at the Federal Reserve, Washington DC and Bundesbank Professor at the Freie University, Berlin. Excellent introduction to empricial finance

This is fast becoming one of my favorite books, simply because it packs so much into one volume (where I previously had to turn to three). "Quantitative Financial Economics" rivals Bodie, Kane and Marcus, and Elton and Gruber in scope and quality.

It almost goes without saying, but this book is much better than anything by Frank Fabozzi.

No one book can contain everything, but lord knows Cuthbertson and Nitzche try. Whew!

If I had to recommend a single book to someone who had the energy and discipline to teach themselves the basics of modern finance, this would be the book I'd recommend. I'd also recommend this as an excellent "one stop shopping" refresher for PhD in Finance candidates who are about to take comprehensive exams, for this work serves as a very strong and efficient outline of the most important topics in empirical and academic finance.

Weaknesses are few, but I will say that the chapters of foreign exchange have a "tacked on" quality to them that does not compare to the strengths of the other chapters on CAPM and EMH.

An additional strength is that Cuthbertson and Nieztche are United Kingdom-based authors, and so the tone throughout is one of conscious international focus and attention. Bodie Kane and Marcus and Elton and Gruber often allude to an implicitly US biased market tone, which, as global capital efficiency increases, is becoming a liability.

This is an excellent, highly recommended work for an introductory text, a support text for intermediate studies with a particular focus, or for support and review for advanced students. Cuthbertson and Nietzche have every reason to be proud, and "Quantitative Financial Economics" should be used by undergraduate and graduate programs, and widely available in reference libraries.

Excellent Introduction to Financial Economics

An excellent book to start understanding quantitaive methods in financial economics. This could serve as one of the best introductions to the first-timers. The author has taken care to explain the concepts in a lucid manner to prepare the student to take on the concepts at a greater detail. He even touches upon complex issues like stock market 'anomalies' and models of noise trader behaviour. The discussion on 'rational bubble'is also quite helpful. On the whole, a very good text to understand competing theoritical models in financial economics and their applicability in various markets like stock, bond and currency market.

Not one of her best.

In this latest story by Amanda Ashley, Edward Ramsey, a former Vampyre hunter, is brought over by Grigori Chiavari after Ramsey almost dies killing one of Chiavari's enemies. Ramsey hates being one of the things that he devoted his mortal life destroying. He rescues Kelly, beautiful woman whom he eventually falls in love with and she helps him to accept his new life. Then Khira comes to town and she is determined to destroy the vampires and humans alike in Los Angeles.
Critique: I love Vampire stories. There is usually nothing more exotic and sensual as a vampire, but this story lacked quite a bit. The story line did not move smoothly. I felt that a lot of dialogue and scenes were reused over and over and over. The character development was practically non-existent. You would think the story will be more about Kelly and Ramsey, but you find out more about Chiavari and his wife Marisa. I did not feel anything for these characters and had to force myself to finish the book. When I finally read the last word I sighed...not with satisfaction, but with relief. If you are an Amanda Ashley fan, maybe you will adore this novel, but others...beware!

Sequel to Shades of Grey Ties Loose Ends....

I read this book not knowing it was the sequel to 'Shades of Grey', yet it isn't marketed as such. So if you haven't read 'Shades..', do that before reading this since the main characters do not take up many pages in the book, but the main characters from Shades do. In other words, this book should've been advertized as the continuence of Grigori and Marisa's life, not the emergence of a new vampire he'd made named Edward Ramsey.
Edward was supposed to be the main character and driving force in the book and possibly a little scarier than Grigori, but nope, I wasn't convinced. Edward was too whiny and selfish to be a hero.
His being a former Hunter of Vampires and coming from a great line of Hunters I was hoping for something very impressive, but what we got was complaining and him feeling sorry for himself. Grigori saved his life in the pervious novel, thus making him what he is now and all he does is blame the vampire and lash out at him almost the entire book.
Edward's obsession with Marisa is kinda weird and after awhile we the reader start to wonder why Grigori saved him afterall. The love interest Edward is supposed to be going for is a broken woman named Kelly who tries to kill herself and he saves her. In return she stays at his house and keeps an eye out for him while he sleeps.
I liked Kelly and thought she deserved a better hero. Edward was too selfish for her and tended to grate on my nerves. Thankfully the author started out with him in almost all the chapters, then moved away from him and Kelly and went on to put the light on Grigori and Marisa for the rest of the book. Which was a great deal. We get to see what happens to them and their new relationship.
A very good book, very well written and with lots of action. My only complaint was the main characters Edward and Kelly; could've done without them.
Edward Ramsey spent his life hunting the very thing that he has become. His conscience is screaming for him to end it all, but somehow he doesn't have the will. Things start to change when a desperate woman tries to end her life and Edward must save her.
Kelly gives him reason to live on, even as a monster. He needs her love and kind heart, but she's been hurt and trampled on too many times.
An ancient evil is in town too. A merciless, yet stunning creature named Khira. She is seeking supremacy in L.A and wants her former lover back...Grigori. arousing vampire romance

After teaming up with his enemy, Grigori Chiavari to kill a rogue vampire, hunter Edward Ramsey is now one of the undead complements of his former ally for saving his life. Ramseys for centuries have hunted vampires so Edward has deep psychological problems with the change and prefers death. Still, he saves the life of a mortal, Kelly Anderson who jumped into the river because she has nothing to live for.
Meanwhile the oldest known living vampire Khira arrives in the Los Angeles area seeking her former lover Grigori for the first time in two centuries. When Grigori saw Khira sucking the blood of a child, he left her. Now Khira plans to dominate the region with only Grigori and Edward powerful enough, if they can team up again, to stop her. For stop her they must as Khira plans to eliminate the beloved two mortals that Grigori and Edward now respectively love above their own lives.
The sequel to SHADES OF GRAY is an arousing vampire romance that readers who enjoy a bite in their novels will want to read. Though the story line seems somewhat repetitive with Edward's constant whining that he wants to die, he is a powerful character struggling between his heritage and his dark future until he realizes how much he love Kelly. Grigori and his wife Marisa retain their cherished relationship that is being challenged by the villainess Khira while the audience wonders will she or will she not. Amanda Ashley provides an enjoyable supernatural romance that those who enjoy the AFTER SUNDOWN nightlife will want to peruse.
