Nice family read

The Borrowers books, also by Mary Norton, were a big part of my childhood and I was looking for something like that to share with my 3YO as bed time reading and from the description of this book, this sounded to be just the thing. We had previously been reading the Faraway Tree books so I was not worried about the speech patterns (which are slightly different from a more modern book) and hoped that we would enjoy this book as much.
This is a lovely set of stories with great chapter lengths for night time reading, but it does take a little while for the really fantastical adventures to start and this made it a little more difficult to keep our small person focused on the book, but when we got into the more detailed adventures he was engrossed.
As with a lot of these books they are definitely reflective of its time both in some of the language and activities that the characters undertake, and this is not a direct copy of the movie - though you can see some of the movie in it (as you would expect). This is a really nice family read
